UNIFIED BOWLING TOURNAMENT

WHO:

Elementary through high school and adult Special Olympics athletes and their unified sports partners* are invited to compete

WHEN:

Saturday March 6 and Sunday March 7 2010

WHERE:

Incline Station - Duluth, MN (Follow US 35 North to Duluth, exit Superior St. Incline Station is on your left at the junction of Superior Street and 6th Ave. W (1st set of lights). Free parking behind Incline-turn left on 6th St.

COST:

$18.00 per bowler (includes shoes, 1 meal, dance and T-shirt). Unless prior arrangements are made, money is due with Registration Form by February 21, 2010 -- See below for details about lunch.

You may download the registration form, complete it and attach it to an email or fax to number listed above.  Note:  may take a minute to download the form.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS February 21, 2010
If deadline is met by all teams, you will receive lane assignments prior to the tournament.


T-SHIRTS:

All participants will receive a t-shirt. Athletes and partners from all teams are welcome to enter the t-shirt design contest. Limited number of additional shirts will be available at a cost of $10.00 per shirt.

LUNCH:

Saturday - Lunch will be served at completion of session.
Sunday - Lunch will be served from 11 AM - 2:30 PM ONLY
Each registered athlete and coach will receive one ticket for  2 pieces of pizza OR sloppy joes/hot dogs AND chips, veggies & fruit.  Cost for friends/family members for lunch is $5.00 per person.

AWARDS:

Unified Special Olympics Ribbons for all bowlers. First place Trophies for High Team Series overall - (with handicap) (2 trophies per session).

MUSIC:

During lunch and at the end of each session music will be played for listening and dancing.

TRAINING:

*Unified sports means that partners train together a minimum of three times prior to entering a unified tournament.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:

This tournament is a mixed doubles event. Every effort will be made to create divisions according to age (oldest doubles bowler determines age category). 100% of 200 determines handicap

RULES:

1. Athletes will alternate lanes and bowl 3 games (except wheelchair)
2. Automatic scoring will be used.
3. Foul lights will be on.

ELIGIBILITY:

Special Olympics athletes must be registered with Minnesota Special Olympics and MUST SHOW CURRENT medical form at registration. If an athlete was registered with SOMN at any time in the past, they MUST complete the forms and enter as a Special Olympics athlete, not as a partner.

Partners must complete the Unified Sports Partner Information Form and must show form at registration (form can be downloaded or found in SO MN Coaches Handbook.)

DEFINITION: The Unified SportsŪ program - brings persons without mental retardation together on the same team with persons with mental retardation of comparable age and athletic ability. Founded in 1987, Unified Sports fosters the integration of persons with disabilities into school and community sports programs.
